‘Why we are going on strike’ Niger Delta University Lecturers of the Bayelsa State-owned Niger Delta University (NDU) in Amassoma, who yesterday proceeded on an indefinite strike over their four months unpaid salaries, have given their reason why they decided to take the action. Chairman of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Port-Harcourt zone, Prof Beke Select, said the state government owes the lecturers and non-academic staff of the university since January. He stated that the decision to proceed on what he described as work-to-rule action was taken on Thursday when all entreaties to the government for their salaries to be paid fell on deaf ears. “Yes, the work-to-rule action was ratified by the National Executive Council (NEC) of ASUU. #PanamaPapers: EFCC, Interpol to go after Saraki, Mark, others April 10, 2016 Saraki, Mark Eniola Akinkuotu The Federal Government has opened a file on all Nigerians whose names have been mentioned in the Panama Papers as operating offshore accounts in notorious tax havens. Some of the individuals listed in the papers so far are the current Senate President, Bukola Saraki; and his predecessor, David Mark. Others listed include Africa’s richest man, Mr. Aliko Dangote; his cousin, Saayu Dantata, and a former Minister of Defence, Lt.Gen Theophilus Danjuma (retd.) It was learnt that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission had been gathering reports from local and international media as well as the responses being given by those named. It was also learnt that the EFCC would then carry out its independent investigation and involve INTERPOL if necessary. His death was announced by the governor of Edo State, Adams Oshiomhole in a statement. “Our hearts are heavy, laden with pains and grief, at the announcement of the passing on to glory of Omo n’Oba n’Edo Uku Akpolokpolo, Oba Erediauwa of Benin, our highly revered Oba.” The Governor described the late Oba as” a distinguished Edo  numero uno , an accomplished Nigerian, a seasoned bureaucrat, quintessential unifier, unique personage and exemplary Omo N’Oba, whose reign brought distinction, immense class, finesse and integrity to traditional institution in Edo state and the country at large.”

EFCC recovers N6.5b in cash, properties Alison-Madueke • We reported Alison-Madueke’s transactions, says bank • NBC ex-boss, commissioners deny N3.4b fraud As investigations continue and more discoveries are being made in the controversial arms procurement deal, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has recovered up to N6.5 billion in the last two weeks. Much of the recoveries were allegedly from the former Chief of Air Staff, Air Mashall Adesola Amosu. According to reports, Amosu, about a fortnight ago, returned N2.3 billion to the Federal Government. Also, properties worth about N500 million were reportedly seized from him while another N381million was allegedly refunded by his wife, Omolara. A Magnetic Resonance Imaging machine was also reportedly seized from Amosu’s diagnostic centre this week by the EFCC. The machine is said to be worth N2.6 billion. Altogether, N5.78 billion has been recovered from Amosu alone in less than two weeks. Other

Bayelsa LGs’ verification uncovers fraud, 60 underaged workers Bayelsa State Governor Seriake Dickson The chairmen of verification committees set up by the Bayelsa State Government to verify staff and wage bills of the state’s eight local government areas have alleged massive fraud in their reports. The reports, submitted to the state Deputy Governor, Rear Admiral John Jonah (retd.), during the Monthly Transparency Briefing, alleged salary payments to dead workers, employment of minors, unqualified workers, and truancy in the local government system. The reports, presented by Chief Thompson Okorotie (Ekeremor); Senator Nimi Barigha-Amange (Nembe); Senator Inatimi Rufus-Spiff (Brass), and Chief Patrick Isulu, among others, exposed poorly administered and corruption-infested LGAs in the state.
